ABSTRACT

This study aims at exploring the underlying determinants influencing students' continuance intention to use an e-Learning platform during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the technology acceptance model and expectation-confirmation model, the study investigated the role of contextual (i.e., social isolation), psychological (academic year loss and cyberchondria), and student support-related (government and institutional supports) determinants on students' continuance intention to use an e-Learning platform during the pandemic. The study collected data from 440 respondents and analyzed those with Structural Equation Modeling. The findings showed that an e-Learning continuance intention during the pandemic is affected by usefulness, ease of use, attitudes, and intention to use the e-Learning platform;while the behavioral intention is influenced by usefulness, ease of use, attitudes, contextual, psychological, and student support-related determinants;and attitudes are impacted by usefulness and ease of use. Moreover, usefulness is predicted by confirmation of expectation;e-satisfaction is forecasted by usefulness and confirmation of expectation;whereas, cyberchondria is influenced by social isolation;fear of academic year loss is influenced by cyberchondria. Finally, intention to use mediated the impact of usefulness, ease of use, attitudes, contextual, psychological, and student support-related determinants on continuance intention. The study contributes to e-Learning literature incorporating contextual, psychological, and student support-related determinants into the technology acceptance model and expectation-confirmation model, which guide policymakers to understand how all levels of students can be brought into the e-Learning platforms that eventually help to eliminate digital discrimination barrier in the academia during any emergency. The policymakers must be careful in designing eLearning platforms since students' e-learning continuance intention may vary due to unprecedented crises, such as COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

As mobile healthcare services entered the public sight with high frequency during the COVID-19 pandemic, patients are increasingly recognizing the effectiveness of mobile medical consultation (MMC). Earlier studies have investigated what influences continuance intention (CI) towards MMC, but few studies have scrutinized it from the perspective of patients' psychological distance. We formulated a framework to examine the psychological factors influencing CI towards MMC by integrating the information systems continuance model and psychological distance theory. The framework was validated using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach and data from 475 MMC users in China. The empirical results revealed that immediacy, telepresence, intimacy, and substitutability were significant predictors of CI, while satisfaction mediated these pathways. Pandemic-induced anxiety positively moderated the effect of immediacy on satisfaction and the effect of satisfaction on CI. Practical implementations for MMC healthcare practitioners, designers, and marketers are drawn.

ABSTRACT

Purpose The e-health services came up as an effective tool to mitigate effects of COVID-19 and following social distance norms. This study highlighted an issue of contentious usage intentions of e-health services among Thai older citizens. This study aims to examine the relationship of social influence (SI), information quality (IQ) and the digital literacy (DL) to contentious usage intentions. Design/methodology/approach This study follows quantitative techniques, and the sample size is 140 to analyze, that is collected from the older Thai citizens. The convenient sampling technique was used to collect the data and the items were measured by using a five-point Likert scale. Findings The findings of this study are having mixed results. The effect of DL and satisfaction (SAT) on continuous usage intention (CUI) is significant. The effect of IQ and SI on CUI is non-significant. The effect of IQ and SI on SAT is significant. Further, the mediating effect of SAT between IQ and CUI is non-significant. However, the mediating effect of SAT between SI and CUI is significant. Originality/value This study contributes to knowledge by empirical testing of DL and usage of the medicine. Furthermore, to the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is one of the rare studies that incorporate technological intervention for drug usage intentions.

ABSTRACT

Purpose Internet banking services are proven to be much advantageous and convenient during COVID-19 pandemic. However, vibrant networking designs and dynamic changes in software development have made these services bit complex. Thus, the current study seeks to investigate Internet banking user continuance intention with factors underpinning self-determination theory (SDT) and expectation confirmation model (ECM) theory. The moderating role of image is studied between user intention to continue use of Internet banking and intention to recommend Internet banking service in social networks during COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach The quantitative research approach is applied and data collected through a research survey. For inferential analysis, 360 responses were collected from active Internet banking users. The integrated information system model was empirically tested using structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. Findings Findings indicate that integrated IS research model has substantial explanatory power, i.e. 57.8% to predict continuance intention of Internet banking users. Within integrated research model, intrinsic regulation was found the most influential factor in order to determine Internet banking user continuance intention. Beside two theories integration, this study confirmed that the relationship between user continuance intention and intention to recommend Internet banking is moderated by image. Practical implications The fundamental contribution of this study is the integration of technological and motivational factors in Internet banking user continuance intention context. Theoretically, integration of both theories ECM and SDT in technology continuance intention context will enrich the emerging e-commerce literature. Concerning with managerial implications, intrinsic regulation was identified as an important factor among other factors. Therefore, managers and software developers need to understand user's intrinsic motivational factors in order to boost continuance intention of Internet banking users. It is also suggested that managers and marketing personnel should pay special attention to create a positive image of Internet banking services among Internet banking users. Originality/value Within information system literature the concept of user continuance intention has yet to be examined especially in Internet banking context. Thus, current research fills research gap and proposes an integrated technology motivational framework that combines motivational factors and technology factors altogether to investigate Internet banking user continuance behavior.

ABSTRACT

While there has been considerable research related to distance learning, there is surprisingly little research into the role stress plays in distance learning. Therefore, in this paper, we investigated two types of stress: distress and eustress. Using a combination of stress theory and the job and demand resources theory, we developed a research model to predict distance learning satisfaction and continuance intentions. Results from 525 full-time students engaging in distance learning indicate general support for our research model. Our findings clearly indicate that 1) both distress and eustress are associated with distance learning continuance intentions, 2) these impacts are mediated by distance learning satisfaction, and 3) distress has a stronger effect than eustress. Our findings can assist advisors and faculty in helping students understand whether distance learning is a good idea for them.

ABSTRACT

Purpose - This study was designed to specifically explore confirmation and perceived usefulness associated with mobile food ordering apps (MFOAs) in consideration of their impacts upon attitudes, satisfaction and intention to continuously use. Design/methodology/approach - The research utilized the convenience sampling to gather data from 250 respondents having prior experience with MFOAs during COVID-19 pandemic period in Bangladesh. The Structural Equation Modeling technique was applied to analyze the data using SmartPLS 3 software. Findings - This study's results showed that customers' perceived confirmation and usefulness were significant in determining their dinning attitudes. Besides, customers' dining attitudes were positively related to e-satisfaction. Finally, the customers' continuance intention to use MFOAs was significantly influenced by their e-satisfaction. Research limitations/implications - Restaurants managers should focus on online sales through MFOAs during the pandemic period since social distancing is a key strategy to manage COVID-19. Customers should be assured that the safety measures are undertaken while delivering the food. Originality/value - This study incorporated the expectation-confirmation theory and technology acceptance model and tested it in the context of MFOAs.

ABSTRACT

Most nations across the world are actively pursuing equal access to healthcare services. Teleconsultation technology is a substantial improvement in terms of an effective framework for the provision of healthcare services. However, a lack of understanding of people's willingness towards the use of this technology has been observed. The goal of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the post-acceptance of teleconsultation services in Malaysia. This study developed a theoretical model which involves the combination of the second generation of Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) and Expectation Confirmation Theory (ECT), with the inclusion of several other constructs. An online survey was used to collect data from 154 university students and partial least squares (PLS) approach was used for data analysis. The research findings indicate that confirmation, performance, effort expectancy, usefulness, and satisfaction were the key factors that affect the post-acceptance of teleconsultation services. Furthermore, actual use, ease of use, technology readiness, and facilitating conditions did not impact participants' post intention in the continuous usage of teleconsultation facilities.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic is pressing educational institutions across the globe to transfer rapidly from face-to-face learning to e-learning. However, e-learning has some multifaceted problems waiting to be solved and optimized. This study uses a survey questionnaire to collect research data. By integrating two predictors and four moderators into expectation-confirmation model, this article develops a causal research model and studies the continuance intention of using e-learning after the pandemic and how we can optimize online learning systems to benefit the traditional education systems in the long term. This article fills the literature gap of studies on IS continuance intention of e-learning from a problem-driven perspective. Based on the research results, this article suggests policy-makers and educators not only develop continuous training for both instructors and students on e-learning to enhance their ability and acceptance of e-learning systems but also build a more comprehensive technical environment to accelerate the adoption as well as to increase the continuance usage intention of e-learning systems. In addition, high-quality educational designs of e-learning that contain interaction mechanisms and customizations according to students' perceptions and attitudes toward e-learning are needed. We also call on scholars from around the globe to continue investigating the critical factors of e-learning adaptation and online educational environment optimization for proposing better solutions to counter crises similar to the COVID-19 pandemic in the future.
